THE LEGEND OF NARCISSUS'S VANITY May 2005 Antino Angel

His name was Narcissus
the most beautiful boy in the world
Vanity was his equal
for he was as breathtaking as a girl
When Narcissus first saw Vanity
they fell madly in love
But on their love would soon fall tragedy
as they knew not what was
Guilty for loving each other
yet innocent in their sin
Both condemned by their families
persecuted as homosexual men
So Narcissus promised Vanity
to someday runaway together
Nothing would keep them apart
they should be each other forever
Vanity longed for the day
when they could walk hand in hand
Undisturbed by the looks of others
free love between man and man
The day would finally come
when the two lovers were ready to go
Narcissus wanted to tell no one
Vanity thought his mother should know
But she would betray his secret
o his father she ran to tell
He was determined to save his son's soul
or Vanity would burn in hell
That night Narcissus came for Vanity
the father waited at the door
He told Narcissus it was over
that Vanity loved him no more
Narcissus insisted it was a lie
Vanity would have told him himself
So they were still leaving together
and it was the business of no one else
The father revealed a gun
demanding the young man to leave
He should go away quietly
or else he would have to bleed
Vanity heard shouts from his window
Suddenly he ran outside
His father fired a shot at Narcissus
but it was Vanity whom the bullet would collide
The beautiful lad fell to his knees
Narcissus ran to his side
his world now turned upside down
God please dont let Vanity die
Narcissus caressed his lovers head
as Vanity looked into his eyes
And with his last breathe he cried
"I love you,goodbye."
The father shrieked in horror
what had he just done
Blinded by his own hatred
he had killed his only son
Narcissus had never known such pain
this tragedy that sealed their fate
Why was his love taken from him
Vanity had been his soulmate
Months would soon pass
but Narcissus would never be the same
He sank into a deep depression
feeling as if he was to blame
Lost without his lover
Narcissus longed to die
Vanity was gone forever
to the Lord everynight he cried
An angel came to visit him
she spoke to him in his dreams
He begged her to bring back Vanity
her response was only God could deem
The next morning Narcissus awoke
his mirror would question his sanity
But then he realized heaven's gift
for in his reflection he would always see his Vanity.
